The possibility to become familiar with and learn cultural expressions is made available for everyone living in Norway

Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions (Studieforbundet kultur og tradisjon) is a member organization for voluntary organizations providing adult learning in the fields of culture and tradition. Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions has 39 member organizations providing adult education in disciplines such as traditional crafts, dance, theater, coast culture, local history, language etc.

Criteria

These criteria have to be met for the course to be approved by Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions, and to qualify for receiving subsidy from the Ministry of Education:

* A minimum of three participants being 14 years old, or older
* A minimum of eight hours of coursing
* The course is based on a preapproved study plan

Best possible learning conditions

Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions’ main role is providing the best possible learning conditions for our member organizations. We administrate a subsidy from the Ministry of Education which is partitioned out to all our member organization’s local branches, based on the numbers of hours taught. The majority of courses taught by our member organizations are practically based.
Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions also offers adult education through our own courses. Among a variety of courses, we provide education in how to make the traditional garment Bunad and courses in traditional hand weaving. We administrate subsidy to more than 5.000 courses and 40.000 people yearly.

Statistics

Every year a number of people participate in courses held by voluntary organizations in Norway. Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions is one of fourteen cooperation organizations in Norway working to make education in voluntary organizations possible, and administrating the subsidy from the Ministry of Education.

In 2017 Association for Studies of Culture and Traditions distributed subsidy to:

5260 courses

with a total of 161 560 hours

coursing 40 000 participants
